Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about business VoIP
Thinking about a new phone system or switching business phone providers? These are the questions Tampa Bay owners and office managers ask us most. Don’t see yours? Call us and ask a person.
Getting started
What is business VoIP, in plain English?
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. Instead of running calls over old copper phone lines and a box in your closet, your calls travel over the internet to a secure cloud system. For you, that means desk phones, a desktop app and a mobile app that all work as one phone system, with no on-site phone server to maintain.
Is ShowTech Voip a good VoIP phone system for a small business?
Yes. ShowTech Voip is built for small and mid-sized businesses, from a five-person office to multi-location teams. You get the same features larger companies use, like auto attendants, call queues and call recording, without needing an in-house phone expert, because our team manages it for you.
How much does ShowTech Voip cost?
We charge a flat monthly rate based on how many users you have and which features and hardware you need, with no hidden fees. The quickest way to get your exact rate is a free phone assessment. Call 813-793-4700 or use the contact form.
Do I need a contract?
No. ShowTech Voip has no long-term contracts. We would rather keep you with good service. You can add or remove users as your team changes.
Which areas do you serve?
We are based in downtown Tampa and serve businesses throughout Tampa Bay, including St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Brandon, Largo and surrounding areas, with onsite support available across the region. Because the system is cloud-based, we can also support your remote staff and other locations.
Switching providers
Can I keep my current phone numbers?
In most cases, yes. We handle number porting for you, including the paperwork with your current carrier, and schedule the cutover so your numbers move over with minimal disruption. We will confirm your numbers are eligible during the assessment.
How long does it take to switch business phone providers?
It depends mainly on how long your current carrier takes to release your numbers. We pre-configure your phones, apps and call flows while the port is in progress, so when the transfer completes, your new system is ready to go. We will give you a realistic timeline up front.
Will we have downtime during the switch?
We plan the cutover carefully to keep interruption as short as possible, and we are on hand during the switch to test calls and fix anything right away. Your team gets a quick training session so day one feels normal.
Can I use my existing desk phones?
Sometimes. Some existing phones can be reused if they are compatible and in good shape. Often it makes sense to move to managed desk phones that come pre-configured and covered by warranty. We will tell you honestly which option makes more sense.
Features & support
Can my team use their cell phones with our business number?
Yes. The ShowTech Voip mobile app for iPhone and Android lets your team make and take calls and texts using the business number, so personal numbers stay private. Calls can move between the desk phone, computer and cell without hanging up.
Can we send text messages from our main business number?
Yes. Business texting (SMS and MMS) is included, so customers can text your business number and your team can reply from the desktop or mobile app.
What happens to our phones if the internet or power goes out?
ShowTech Voip is hosted in the cloud with built-in redundancy. If your office loses internet or power, calls can automatically route to mobile apps, another location or a backup number, so customers can still reach you. We set up those failover rules with you in advance.
Do you support call centers and call queues?
Yes. We set up call queues, ring groups, overflow rules and call recording for busy front desks and call centers, and we fine-tune the flow after launch based on how callers actually behave.
Can ShowTech Voip run paging, door intercoms or panic buttons?
Yes. We can integrate paging horns, door intercoms with remote unlock, strobe alarms and panic buttons with your phone system. We will help you plan what fits your building and who should be alerted.
How do I get support if something goes wrong?
Call 813-793-4700. Our live help desk is available 24/7/365, and a real person typically answers in under four minutes. When a visit is the faster fix, we have technicians across Tampa Bay.
Can ShowTech Voip help us meet HIPAA or other compliance requirements?
We can help you prepare by explaining how features like call recording, voicemail and access controls work, and by pointing you to the right settings. Whether your setup meets a specific regulation is something your compliance owner or legal counsel should review.
Still have a question?
Our team answers the phone around the clock. Call, or send a note and we’ll walk you through it.
